Good afternoon! I start this over on SYGM but think it is better placed here, using these as March favourites and April is due to follow shortly. I know there is nothing new and fresh to a 'favourites' post, it is the basic bitch's bread and butter, but I want to share what I have been loving (and sometimes hating) to put a little bit more of my personality back in to the blog.
Whilst we have The Weekend Edit (and 30 under 30 will be making a come back!) I want to make sure there is still an injection of the lifestyle element to the blog. Just because you ladies (and gents) are engaged, doesn't mean that you don't want to read other content. Usually my waffle. Plus, I love shopping and trying new things, I feel like it helps if I try before you buy. If anything, it is a public service...
Ok so! Some of these things were picked up on my birthday shopping trip (vlog coming soon) but they have already made their way in to my favourites. I shall start with make up bits. First up is the Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil. I was at the hairdressers last week, and after contemplating going brunette I actually ended up going blonder. I needed a new eyebrow pencil and the lovely lady in Space NK suggested this one. It matched my brows perfectly (Soft Brunette) it stays on fantastically, the crayon is firm but easy to apply.
Next up was a birthday gift from my best friend, but I think she has selected the perfect nude. I know it doesn't really translate in the photo, but its a 'your lip colour but better' type of shade. I had been relying on Tilbury for my nude lately but this has now taken over. It is Tom Ford in Addison.
Next was also from the same friend who picked up this contour crayon as it meant to be an amazing dupe for the Kevin Aucoin contour. You simply draw a line where you want the colour then buff it out. I think the best thing about this is the colour, which isn't too orangey and it also buffs out beautifully. It is buildable but just make sure you're buffing well as you don't want to end up looking dirty. Unless that is your thing. It is by Collection and I have the shade Light. How can you say no at £3.99?
I have tried out 2 new foundations this month. Mac Studio Fix (utter shite) and the Diorskin Forever. I think the shade is sliiiggghtly off for me, a tad too dark. This may because my beloved Nars Sheer Glow in Mont Blanc is an exact match for my skin. However I have loved wearing it, amazing coverage and skin feels like it can still breathe. It is heavily fragranced so I wouldn't recommend for sensitive skin.
On to skincare. Jesus, my skin went to shiiitttttt in Feb. Mainly down to new pill and being ill I think. It is now thankfully back on track. I am still using the Kiehls moisturiser and I did pick up a bunch of The Ordinary skincare but I need more than a month to tell you whether that is working well. I have been getting large spots just on one cheek. I have no idea why, I am due to see a dermatologist soon. But I have found that the Mario Badescu has been a life saver when it comes to drying out those big bad spots. You dip a cotton bud in to the pink sediment and apply before bed. By the morning most of mine will have reduced almost all the way down.
On top of this I have been loving these L'oreal masks. I apply both at the same time in the areas I need them, wait 10 mins and genuinely, skin feels delicious. My favourite is probably the purity as I feel I need it more, but the glow mask does work.
I think perfume is probably my all time favourite thing, and after I had added a few more to my collection I think I am going to do a 'Perfume Wardrobe' tour. I recently got to add one of my all time crushes to my collection which was the Acqua di Parma Colonia Intensa - 180mls for £120. It is marketed as a mens fragrance but to be honest all of Acqua di Parma is unisex apart from maybe their Iris Nobile (unless as a man you like to smell ultra floral). Most of the perfumes I wear are very heavy, quite manly as that is my preference. The next time you go past have a sniff, you will fall in love. Lots of leather, bergamot, citrus which is a classic Acqua di Parma blend, but the addition of myrtle and cedar take it to another level.
On a lighter note. The new Neom fragrance is lovely, it is exceptionally crisp and fresh. You can really smell the grapefruit and rosemary but on my skin, the only thing that lingers is the rosemary and after a few hours I feel like I smell like a rosemary chicken ready to go in for Sunday lunch. It is a shame because I do love this as a day scent and I think it will be something I carry in my handbag for a quick spritz.
Lastly, The White Company Fresh Fig, oh my dayyyysss. What a scent!!!! I hadn't smelt this before as it was one that I always passed over as I have quite a few fig scents but this is different, plus the texture and longevity of the body cream is just insane! I was so surprised with this I used it throughout all of Feb it is now empty but will be getting repurchased. The only thing I am wary of is that it doesn't layer well under a good portion of my fragrances. Smells lovely under quite a lot of the Jo Malones though.
On to home stuffs! I have wanted some of the monogrammed Anthropologie glasses for ages, I asked for some for Christmas but sadly didn't receive them, whilst shopping last week I finally picked them up. The reason I want them? Aside from the 24k gold? They are the perfect size for gin. I can forgive having to hand wash them for how much enjoyment I get making the perfect gin in them.
I already know what candle will be my March favourites as I have been burning it for 2 days non stop so far, but for February it was this one from the Croydon Candle Co. They sent me some of their small wedding favour candles, and popped this in too. It smells amazing! I have it burning in the kitchen and whenever anyone comes round they always ask what it is. It has a warming but very fresh scent, perfect for this time of year. It is nearly finished and I am definitely going to be repurchasing.
My book for Feb was Out of Bounds by Val Mcdermid and whilst I enjoyed it, I didn't love love love it. My book for March is going to be Thrive by Arianna Huffington, Im only a few pages in but enjoying it so much already. This version is from Kikki K, and there are also some pretty quotes cards from the book.
Food item for February was a tough choice between the M&S Gluten Free Blueberry muffins or these. But The Coconut Collaborative have won. I crave chocolate all the time. I gave up chocolate for Feb as I wondered if my over indulgence was playing havoc with my skin. It didn't make a huge difference but I reduce down my intake to just 4 of these pots a week. Oh my god, they are delicious little pots of heaven. Made with coconut so dairy free (as I am trying to cut out most dairy from my diet at the moment) and beautifully rich and chocolatey they stem any cravings just after one little pot. I picked these up at Tesco so I am not sure where else you can get them.
Entertainment wise - podcast - Oh Witch Please, if you are a Harry Potter fan...just listen. TV it has to be Apple Tree Yard and as for films probably Nocturnal Animals and I rewatched Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
So at the end of each edit I am going to give my most favourite thing. It was always going to be this...
I went and chose this handbag with Michael in December and had to wait till the 23rd of February till I could use it! It is the Aspinal Marylebone Tote and it is an utter beauty. The quality, the craftsmanship, the smell, the colour, the size. Everything about it is perfect. It comes with a strap should you wish to have it over the shoulder, the pockets, compartments inside would make it perfect for travelling.
The staff in the Leeds branch were so wonderfully helpful, we also picked out my Christmas gift which was a purse and they were so patient whilst I ummed and ahhed so close to closing time a few days before Christmas.
That's everything! I hope you had a wonderful February and are looking forward to March. It is quite a meh month and I am definitely on a downer after my birthday so I am planning on filling March with lots of fun activities. See you back here in 30 days! Also, if you buy anything listed, or think I would enjoy something use #TheSYGMedit and I can have a look!
